Media Consent & Release

TL;DR

Start here

We love showing off curl transformations. We will never show off yours without asking first.

Three things to know:

  • This is completely optional. Declining changes nothing about the service you receive, how you are treated, or what you pay.

  • You control the details. Face shown or not. Tagged or not. Named or not.

  • You can change your mind at any time, for any reason, without explaining yourself.

​

No consent means no photos. That is the whole rule.

What we might capture

Before and after photos. Transformation photos, progress photos documenting hair health over time, and style photos.

​

Service video. Styling process and technique, product application, cutting and shaping methods, and scalp and wellness services.

​

Social and web content. Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest, our website gallery, and email campaigns.

​

Educational content. Workshop materials, curl care tutorials, and training demonstrations for stylists.

Where it might appear

With your permission, photos and video may be used on social media, our website, marketing materials, educational and workshop content, our professional portfolio, press and industry features, and promotional materials such as posters and digital advertising.

Your consent options

Option A: Full consent

Photos and video may be used for all of the purposes listed above.


You still choose:

  • Face: shown, or blurred and cropped so only your hair appears

  • Tagging: tag me at my handle, or do not tag me

  • Attribution: use my first name or initials, or keep me anonymous


Option B: Limited consent

Photos and video may be used only for the specific purposes you select, such as:

  • Website gallery only, not social media

  • Educational content only

  • In-studio display only

  • Hair only, no face visible

  • Professional portfolio only, not public marketing

  • Any other specific limit you write in


Option C: No consent

We will not photograph or film you. This will not affect the quality of your service in any way.

What you are granting us

If you give consent, you grant Your Curlfriend a royalty-free license to use the images and video, to edit or crop them, to use them on current and future platforms, and to use them in commercial and non-commercial contexts, including licensing to partner brands or media outlets for marketing purposes.

 

You keep the right to revoke that consent at any time. See "Changing or revoking consent".

What we promise you

  • We will honor your consent choices exactly as you set them

  • Content will be tasteful and will portray you positively

  • We will not share identifying information beyond what you authorized

  • We will not use content in a way you would not recognize as consistent with the choices you made

  • Revoking consent will always be easy and will never be questioned

Changing or revoking consent

To revoke or change your consent:

 

Please put it in writing rather than mentioning it by phone or in passing at the studio. A written request means nothing gets lost between the chair and the calendar, and you get confirmation that it was actually done.

If you want us to stop filming during your appointment, of course just say so out loud. We will stop immediately, and you can follow up by email afterward.

​

What happens next:

  • We stop all future use within 30 days

  • We remove existing content from platforms we control, or make reasonable efforts to do so

  • We cannot remove content that has already been reshared by third parties or published by media outlets

  • Your services are unaffected

You can also modify rather than revoke. Moving from full consent to hair-only, or removing tagging permission, is a normal request and takes one message.

Changing or revoking consent

Duration

Consent takes effect on the date you give it and continues until you revoke it.

Clients under 18

A parent or legal guardian must give consent for any client under 18. The same options and the same right of revocation apply. A minor's discomfort is always sufficient reason to stop, regardless of what a guardian has authorized.

Model release

By giving consent, you confirm that you are 18 or older, or that a parent or legal guardian has consented on your behalf; that you have the right to grant this consent; that you release Your Curlfriend from claims related to the authorized use of the images and video; that you waive any right to inspect or approve finished content; and that you understand consent is voluntary and is not required in order to receive services.
